Peanut butter is an affordable source of protein and unsaturated fatty acids. The natural and home made peanut butters are particularly healthy, as they are without preservatives and High Fructose Corn Syrup that many of the larger name brands contain.
Peanut butter is also very versatile and can be used in the much-loved sandwich, sauces, served with various fruits and vegetables, and added to baked goods. Peanuts by themselves make great snacks, and are used in a variety of recipes both savory and sweet.
Unfortunately due to the record high temperatures this summer, peanuts took a direct hit. The crops suffered, causing prices of peanuts to increase dramatically. Wholesale prices can be expected to increase by 30-35%, hitting individuals and organizations hard.
